Old Black Tome - History of Khundrukar
This tome is written in the dwarven script and tells of an ancient ancestral home overrun by orcs over two centuries ago. All of the dwarves inside this mountain fortress in the southeastern Barrier Peaks were slaughtered, and over the course of the following decades the story began to fade. But this was not the end of this mythic tale, as nearly a century later some began to report rumors that some dwarves may have survived the slaughter. This was shocking enough, but what followed ignited the imagination. Legend told that some escaped by following a dwarven smith named Durgeddin the Black. The group was said to wander the mountain lands aimlessly for many decades until they discovered a great cavern system below an unspecified mountain. It was there that this group of dwarves founded the secret stronghold of Khundrukar – the Glitterhame. It was deep below the mountain that the story of Durgeddin’s Vengence, the Smith’s War, was born – and the legend of his extraordinary blades forged in anger. Unfortunately however, just over a hundred years ago it is said that a great orc army from western lands somehow discovered this secret location, and slaughtered all those inside. It is said that these orcs carried most of the ancient treasures away, but myths have developed over the past century that some of the secret chambers deep below may have remained undiscovered and forgotten, and what treasures might still remain might just be the stuff of legend…
Several days to the east of Drakonheim and through the Tanglewood Forest we discovered what we believe to be the Ancient Ancestral Dwarven Fortress of Durgeddin in the Barrier Peaks. It was heavily infested with goblins and hobgoblins but we have cleared it and now have this old black tome to study. I mapped out the fortress as best I could.
